It’s A Good Thing That Some Things Never Change

As I sit before my screen to organize some sort of blog this morning, I’m tempted to write again about the very thing that is utmost in my head – the journey I’ll be taking with open heart surgery in less than two weeks.

Instead, I’m writing about some of the other mundaneness that filters through all that surgery drama that has taken up a semi-permanent residence; the songs that are in my head when I wake up, the necessary routine I perform every morning so that my now-large puppy can be free to roam the house (and not do his doggy dooo-ty in it!) or the simple act of finding my way to the coffee pot. I have to admit that last part is mostly done on autopilot at this stage in my life; very little gets in the way of THAT, not even that almost eighty pound puppy!

This morning’s tune is “She Had Me at Heads Carolina”, by Cole Swindell. It’s a happy tune that makes me smile and thumbs up the track when I hear it come on any of my devices.

So, mentioning songs, plural – the music that daily streams live in my brain is almost never the full, unedited version, it’s usually a snippet of a song because rarely do I know all the words. It makes Hubbin both laugh and cringe when I make up the rest of the words, but there it is as I dance around my kitchen or flit about my house, cooking, tidying, or creating. If he’s wise, which he is, he never criticizes my singing or the tune, nor interrupts the processes that get things done. Instead he’ll step out of my way, fix me a cup of coffee, or lend a hand if it’s warranted.

And then I’ll switch gears and songs as I start another project or task. That’s how my brain works, even at this stage of my life.

Some things never change.
