Blessed Beyond Understanding

I heard something the other day that has had me pondering the areas of my existence.

The person spoke about being thankful for everything he had, and I could relate to that and have thanked God for all my blessings.

But then came the “…but…”

Not from him, but from my own inner voice.

“…but you complain about the clutter. You complain about the undone projects, the heat, the dying grass and garden. Having to take out the trash. Doing laundry. Sweeping and mopping. Dining room lighting. Technology that sometimes has a mind of its own. Nothing good to watch on TV. Grocery shopping. Your dirty car. Your paycheck…”

And then there’s my mobility issues and being steady on my feet.

And then I realized something. Every single one of those ‘buts’ are a blessing that some pray for every day. Feet for instance. How about health? There are some that don’t have a paycheck, a car, a television, AC or heat. Or a store that has a huge selection of anything one could need or wish for. How about a cell phone (or tablet, or laptop…), lights, proper flooring, electricity, a washer and dryer, or the safety of a yard or a roof over their head?

So this morning my prayer will be one of gratitude for the many things that I complain about, and as I go forward into today, I will truly appreciate all the blessings that God has bestowed upon this unworthy child of His. I am humbly grateful.

Amen!
