Goldilocks & the Three Bears, or Search for a Church

My search for a church that was “Just Right” for me had me thinking this morning that it sounded like a revised “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” story.

The first one I went to felt too big. I felt like merely a number, lost in the crowd of people. I felt invisible.

The second was too small. I remember a discussion among what seemed to be seasoned veterans of the church telling people to not pray to God about the little things, to save those prayers for the big things if they wanted to be heard. I could not get out of that one fast enough.

The third felt just right. There was just the right amount of music, a pastor that was passionate about his own faith, teaching and preaching, and the people? Oh the people! They came from all walks, smiling, greeting, and regrouping every Sunday, coming together for worship. I felt right at home the first day I entered. I never felt like an outsider.

So I guess my question of the morning is a somewhat silly one. Does that make Heritage Oaks Church of the Nazarene, the “Baby Bear” of my story?
