Ever been told something and spiral from it?
That’s me, for sure.
I could add a few exclamation marks to my short sentence of “That’s Me” but you probably get the picture.
There are those who do not react to news, preferring to let things play out in real life, but me?
I want to know ALL the possibilities of an event or situation, and I’ll willingly head down the rabbit hole, for sure.
Therein lies the problem.
I once had a doctor ask, during an examination, “How long has this lump been here?”
1-2-3 for me: Lump = Cancer = Death. That rapidly. Tears falling just as quickly, before he could catch his breath from his question.
My world crashing down upon me.
He goes on, “I’m going to listen for a heartbeat.”
Me asking, “Tumors have heartbeats?”
Turns out it was a baby I was carrying, me who had gotten a tubal to prevent another pregnancy, something like over eleven years before.
I love telling that story since that’s exactly what I mean. Nowhere in my spiraling did it occur to me that a lump could mean anything other than cancer and death, and even after he let me listen to my baby’s heartbeat, I left his office and purchased not one but two pregnancy tests just to confirm I did not have cancer.
So last year I was told I had a heart condition. I can guarantee you that I’ve gone from one end of the spectrum to the other with THAT news, and this morning I’ve come to the conclusion that it represents both end of life as I’ve known it as well as rebirth.
A starting over?
Or perhaps I should look at it as an overhaul? Using new parts to fix some of the old ones?
Uh, now I’m feeling like a used car.
A Model T? Well, perhaps not that old.
Plymouth Valiant or Cadillac Coupe de Ville?
See how that just went? Surfing for 1960’s automobiles.
Just that quickly.
Yeah, that’s me.
And now, what’s even funnier about that is that there is a lyric from an aptly named song called “Brokenheartsville,” by Joe Nichols, that goes, “…I think the devil drives a Coupe de Ville…” and now I’ve got that tune stuck in my head as I get ready to work on my agenda for the rest of the day.
Down another Rabbit Hole…
“…Down in Brokenheartsville…”
