I watched a reel the other day where the girl was so focused on her own issues that she perceived others as not caring about her, and did not see that they were dealing with their own dramas.
I’ve been in that position for a few weeks now so this was an “Aha,” eye-opening moment for me.
*The song by Toby Keith is playing on rewind in my head this morning: “I Wanna Talk About Me”*
Now, what to do about this mindset and fun song?
Lately when someone calls and interrupts my mid-rant and says, “I know how you feel, I’ve…” and then describes their own similar experience, am I truly listening or have my own thoughts interrupted and all I hear is the sound of Charlie Brown’s teacher (wah wah wah, wah-wah)?
Better yet, how often do I do that very same thing and said, “I know how you feel, I’ve…”, thereby down-playing or negating their own in-the-moment issue?
This morning’s musing has me thinking of how many times someone has called to check on me and all I’ve done is talk about myself instead of reciprocating the conversation, so today, any calls that come in or out will be flipped.
Well except for doctor calls. I think I can have some grace for those and talk about myself.
*Ugh*
