I have determined that I do not possess a green thumb and think I’m finally ready to acknowledge that the grass truly is greener on the other side, because that’s where it’s watered more. There’s an age-old lesson to be learned from this that applies to life and relationships and perhaps I’ll dwell on that in a minute, but this morning I am contemplating my dying garden and am trying to see the bigger picture here.
Do I even want a garden?
There was (was??) a time that part of me liked the idea of growing such a profuse amount of squash, tomatoes, and the like that even my closest friends would hate to see me coming bearing gifts, but after several years of very little produce, virtually nothing, I think I’m ready to admit defeat. I say ‘think’ because I’m ever the optimist and do not like to think I’ve failed at something, Realistically though, I think my money would be better spent watching the sale ad prices for the things I was trying to grow and would actually consume.
So, what use could I have for the planters I’ve purchased and built?
Flowers?
I like flowers. Ah, the butterflies and the bees, a few more life lessons, but perhaps my flowers and a few more water features would encourage pollinators to the area for others’ gardens around ?
But as I type that, I wonder – would I have better success with flowers, or would they go down the same lonely road as those last few dying vegetable and herb plants I have?
I guess now is as good a time as any to either resurrect or give last rites to my gardening efforts.
More coffee (and a few more days of contemplation and research) and then I’ll be back with a decision, and may add something about relationships and life as well…
