I don’t know if I have mentioned that I have a new dog. We adopted him the end of March from the local shelter and named him Shadow since he seems to be a Velcro-dog. Wherever I am, you can find him.
We ran his DNA and it turns out he will grow into the massive puppy feet he was born with. He’s almost six months old now, over forty pounds, and solidly built! He’s mostly brown with a little bit of black and white, and has a gray muzzle. The tip of his tail is white. He is part Great Pyrenees, German Shepherd, bird dog, Lab, and Pointer, and did I mention, “Adorable”? Well except for this new phase he’s trying on for size, shoes. What did you hear just now? Yes, I get to shop for new shoes, thanks to the newest member of our house *sigh*
Having said that, he’s quickly assimilated into our house and routine and right now is patiently waiting for me to finish writing so that we can go for a quick walk before our incoming storm makes it impossible to safely do so. He doesn’t understand why we can’t go outside during storms; perhaps that’s the Lab part of him that doesn’t mind the rain? He’s not afraid of the storm or lightning, but the vacuum on the other hand? Well the wide berth he gives it would be comical except that my heart goes out to the little guy when I see him glance over his shoulder at it every time he scoots past it as if it may have a life of its own and come after him.
I also had to section off my garden since he likes to dig a hole to lie in, which I’ve been told, is the Great Pyrenees in him. I let him have ONE hole, though I’ve found a couple others he’s begun. He’s leveled my irises.
He’s a super-chill dog that does not bark at the neighbors, squirrels, birds, other dogs, or the mailman, but the other morning something came into our back yard and he alerted me to it by a deep, whole body growl and the immediate stance he took by the back door. That was a first for me, seeing him be so protective and though we didn’t see anything on the camera, I praised him for his action. It was comforting to see that my puppy is also becoming familiar with what is normal and what is out of place and will let us know. We did hear a responding growl on one of the cameras, something that sounded LARGE, but never saw what it could be.
Well, enough of puppy-cuteness, off to handle the agenda for today.
