People Watching

Some people like bird watching; I like to people watch.

There are so many opportunities during the course of my day – grocery shopping, red lights, restaurants, parks, and yes, even church functions. I seriously have no idea what is going on in people’s heads, so it’s kind of a hobby for me to create stories behind their huge smiles or intense frowns. Sleepy eyed? There’s probably an equally-sleepy-eyed child behind that. Worry lines? Yes, probably a child there as well. Road rage? A boss who didn’t understand. Tears? Well, that’s a more difficult one for me as I head down that rabbit hole. Tears are usually loss-related and that could be because of a loss of said ‘rabbit’, or even having the ‘what-ifs’ hit someone about a sickly loved one.

Lately I have been striving to pray for that person I spot in the course of my day, so if you see me quickly bow my head at a red light, please know I’m not in danger of falling asleep at the wheel, I may just be saying a quick prayer for you before the red light changes to green and we are once again on our merry way.
