Exercise Workouts with Hubbin

Recently Hubbin experienced a health crisis and because of this, we had to make some serious changes to his lifestyle and eating habits. This translated to changes in mine as well, since it does not make sense to me to fix him one type of food and a different one for me, or for me to eat something that could undermine his resolve to make changes. Truth? I’ll take motivation in any form, so I was down for this.

Side note, it probably should have come long before now, but there it is. We are here today.

Along with eating habit changes, our sedentary lifestyle (aka, retirement living) had to change. About the time this crisis came about, our state’s health insurance system initiated a new health benefit for state employees, past or present, and sent us a tablet with a downloaded exercise program on it.

The stretching and strength exercises that are within this program are designed to help with mobility and will target areas that the user deems necessary – with me it is my Achillies tendon and the cramps I get in my neck when I’m stressed, and of course the back soreness I get from sitting at my desk. It also helps because I am going into senior years.

So now, we both have our tablets and exercise programs, and we do each of our daily routines together, getting twice the daily workouts in. We are doing these routines six days a week.

This has been fun since Hubbin is so supportive! He encourages and commiserates with me if I have to modify any of the exercises, and is helpful with gathering the items we need for our workouts – water, towels, chairs, stretch bands, yoga mats, etc., and laughs with me as I ‘talk back’ to the instructors when they make comments worthy of my sarcasm (“…stick out your butt like you’re trying to shut a car door with it…”). We have also added additional thirty minutes of cardio aerobic exercise to three of the days of the week, so every other day we take it up a notch.

All in all, Hubbin is doing well with this crisis, and we both have made some serious changes to how we will go from here.

Do I miss my life before this crisis?

If truth be told, it depends on how sore I am after my cardio days, well, actually the ‘after the fact, in-between’ cardio days.

Out to get ready for the next session. See you on the other side!
