I was sipping coffee out on my patio the other day to watch the storm race through, and amid the sounds of thunder, I heard the city’s outdoor community speaker warning people to take shelter because of the many lightning strikes. To me, there is comfort in hearing those warnings. Just knowing that there is a proactive alert to such weather speaks to the part of me who wants to be prepared for any situation. I plan my day around the weather. Sunshine? Gardening. Rain? Indoor activities of course. Severe weather? Ensure devices and rechargeable lights are at full capacity. I’ll prepare snacks, our emergency backpack is updated if needed, and all items are placed by the door to our shelter, which by the way, also includes my shoes since I’m almost always barefoot. After that, I’ll usually head out to my screened in patio to watch the clouds roll in, and perhaps video some of it for my friends who live in the west and have never seen such drama. Tonight’s prediction promises to be more of the same, so I’ll keep that in the back of my mind as I carry out today’s agenda.
Off to get more coffee…
