In the midst of our constant remodeling ideas, Hubbin was entertaining the idea of creating a custom built-in dresser system on one side of our walk-in closet. The weeds of it were the inches, the allowance for drawer pulls, the type of fronts the drawers would have, etc., etc., etc. The discussion got heated when I started asking questions. Turns out he didn’t want to answer them. Perhaps it was because he was still processing the details or perhaps because his blood sugar was low, but I finally decided to walk away because his frustration was beginning to show. Turns out it took him a few snacks and hours to figure things out; I was fast asleep by the time he got it straight in his head. He awoke up and was his usual self this morning and proudly directed my attention to the white board we currently have hanging up on our dining room wall for notes on projects. Written there were all the sizes, cuts, and lumber supply list we would need for this next project.
Should I find myself in this situation again, I’ll walk away from the situation, into the kitchen, and quietly fix him a snack while he does his notes and research. Snacks can’t hurt such moments, I think.
