My Not-So-Green Thumb

I have a desire to plant, and two-thirds of my yard is not being used, so I’m planning out next Spring’s venture – an elaborate garden that will sustain Hubbin and me, and whoever else might benefit from my not-so-green thumb. This year’s effort was a bit better than last year’s, however the multiple 100-degree days took their toll and my strawberries, tomatoes, jalapenos, and bell peppers suffered. My squash got squashed and did nothing other than shrivel up and die, as did the carrots, beans, and peas I planted. I think my aspirations need a bit more information, so these next few months will be spent doing some research before I actually tackle garden beds.

Also, in keeping with being proactive about planting a garden, yesterday I put multiple garlic cloves into the soil in one of my raised beds. I found it takes almost 9 months to harvest garlic, and all the “experts” say that September is the month to begin that process.

“Like having a baby,” they say.

Well, while this “baby” grows in the belly of my back yard, I’ll be looking into the benefits of other types of planters, how much area each type of vegetable needs to thrive, and realistically what we would like to eat,

Okra, NOPE! (did you see that? Top of the “H*** No” list!)

Out for now, looking for some grid paper to draw it out…
