I have been to only one service since my mother died but I have recently felt the need to find one that I can call home.
What a tough decision! I am now living in the Midwest (in the south, for all you northerners), which is widely recognized as the Bible Belt, so one would not think this would be a difficult task. There is one on just about every corner from me! My town supposedly has the most churches than any other town in Oklahoma, which means I have become immobile with indecision amid so many choices!
The first church I contacted did not return my phone calls. That one was the closest to me; I could walk there, but without a return call, I did not feel welcome. Their website had not been updated and the reviews were old and negative.
The second I tried on for size was welcoming and friendly, but the service was unremarkable; I didn’t feel anything but gratitude that it was over so that I could go home. I thought I should go one more time to see if it felt the same way, but this morning I could not bring myself to get into the car for the short jog to the church.
So my plan today was to hop online to an online service for one of the local churches, and I really enjoyed the one I found. I sent the church an email about the service times since there are two different times noted on the website, and if they get back to me timely, then next Sunday I’ll check them out, and if not, then I’m on the hunt again for that perfect fit.
Yep, churches are just like shoes; you just have to find the right fit.
