I like being a hermit.
What that means is that I like staying home, doing my own thing, living my own life and not having to ‘people’ very often.
Having said that, I get complacent with the clutter of everyday living as I hermit. Harvested onions and drying dishes vie for countertop space, the vacuum has been sitting right where I left it in the living room as it awaits another turn around in my house, and empty Amazon boxes adorn my coffee table from my most recent purchases.
Well today we had company.
We got the notification that this person was coming to our home to conduct necessary business, and well, I kicked it into high gear last night. It is amazing how much one can accomplish over the threat of expected or unexpected company! Talk about a motivator!
I set a 15-minute timer per room and bounced all over until each room was presentable. Why 15 minutes, you ask? That is the extent of my attention span when it comes to doing such tedious, mundane tasks, but hey, you have to do what works for you, yes? So, each 15 minute increment gave me enough time to accomplish a lot of mini cleaning – coffee table, dining room table, ebay packaging storage, and so on and so on, and today when this person stopped by, I was not ashamed nor embarrassed at how my home looked.
And tonight? I’m staying on top of the cleanliness, putting things away instead of down.
Sometimes it’s the little things.
Like 15 minutes.
