Liberating the Clutter (or, ‘How NOT to eBay’)

I began an eBay business a few years ago and have bought and sold a lot since the beginning.

“It will be fun,” my friend said.

She lied.

Well, not entirely. It has been fun, and I have had some ups and downs, but I have also learned a few things along the way.

First, list what you buy. Do not buy to store or squirrel it away; nobody is going to buy that cute Louis Vuitton if it is buried in a death pile (yes, I learned what the term “Death Pile” meant).

Second, not everyone is going to love what you list. It may be cute for you; do not buy because of just that. Check the comps for desirability and price. There’s a lot of YouTuber’s who can give you the “How-To” on that.

You will get scammers, and you may even make some friends along the way.

And your death pile may grow exponentially, like mine did. I shopped auctions and bought waaaaay more than the three of us (Me, Myself, and I) could possibly list, but yet, I continued to buy. Yard and estate sales were fair game, as were any of the thrift stores I happened across in the course of my day. You see, I didn’t want to run out of something to sell. I’m seeing now that there was no chance of that.

And then I had a medical event, and the need to reclaim my space became paramount for my health.

So this week I took a sales ‘vacation’ and purged at least three carloads of death pile from my home. One of my family members is going to have a yard sale next week and made the mistake of asking me if I had anything I wanted to include. Her garage is full; my storage is now manageable.

I’ll help her next week so she does not have a death pile either.

I’m still not quite finished with this monumental task, but at least I can see some daylight through the windows instead of a mountain of boxes.

Have a great weekend, all.
