(Written about fifteen years ago, but still holds true today, especially that last part)
I’ve come to realize the importance of keeping promises. I know just about everyone that might be reading my blatherings will of course say they do, but I’ve not always been this way. Oh, I would take care of the usual ones – putting gas in the car if I borrowed it, money by payday, those sort of ones.
But then there were the ones I thought were little ones and acceptable to not follow through on:
got too busy to call back
too tired bake the 2 dozen cupcakes my son needed for a school party
and yes, I’ve even used the excuse, “the check’s in the mail”.
But lately I’ve been on the receiving end of a promise – I’ll call you back (from a friend)
I’ll take out the garbage right after this show, ok, Mom? (my son)
And something so minute as a blatant answer to one of my prayers.
So tonight I thanked my friend for calling, thanked my son for reminding me of my promise to go bike riding with him, and thanked my Lord for the promise He kept to be there for me always.
And it sure felt good.
