I have long contended that breathing through your nose gets oxygen to your brain the quickest, though I’ve never found scientific data to support my claim.
Logic would have it that since the sinuses are so close to the brain, breathing deeply in through the nose helps to clear one’s head and calm one down. This would also explain (to me, anyway) why I get fuzzy and can’t think clearly when I get a cold. Of course I would be fuzzy in the head; no oxygen can get to my brain quickly if I can’t breathe!
So today, as I take a deep, calming inhalation through my nose, I’ll be thankful that the cold I had the last couple weeks has faded and I can breathe, and think, once again.
