Remembering the Date (9/11)

Will anything else ever take the place in my future memories of what happened on this date so many years ago? And then Toby Keith came out with his song about it, and it united us in this one singular cause – every single American (at least everyone I knew!) wanted to rain down on those responsible, and how many cheered when it was resolved. I remember where I was when the first plane hit; I remember not allowing my children to go to school; I remember calling work to tell them I would not be in because of the shock I felt. And we all sat at home and watched as smoke poured forth from building after building. Later we listened to stories – ones of sadness, ones of heroism, and ones of how those who experienced some kind of divine intervention that had kept them away from their normal routines that day.

It does not feel like it’s been that long ago, but look at where we are now, and now we have no Toby to bring us together again.

What a dismal day here, amid the sunshine. Not exactly a memory-replacing sort of day, I guess.
