Over the years, I’ve replaced phones more because I wanted to, not because I had to, although I have cracked a screen or two. Well, my current phone is sporting a couple cracks, which occurred within the first week of ownership. I decided I did not need to replace or fix it at the time since it did not affect performance.
Having said that, several years ago a friend of my son’s came over to do laundry (guessing you’re seeing where this is going). She put all of her laundry in the front loader, added soap, and then turned it on. It took her less than a minute to remember just where she last had her phone, and yes, if you looked into the window of that ultra-efficient washing machine, you’d see the phone taunting her with its flip-and-twist antics in the window. She sat down on the floor in front of the washer and cried as she listened to her soggy phone clunk inside the washing machine, and every time it banged into the little window, she cried harder.
And the problem was, I knew no amount of rice was going to fix that.
