At the Hairdresser’s (not really)

Hubbin is coloring my hair at home – for the record, he does a great job at applying color, and I’m reacting as if he’s my hairdresser, one I’ve not seen in ages.

“So, here’s what’s been going on since the last time I sat in your chair,” I remark.

He laughs but I’m more than just slightly teasing.

We are getting situated and now the color begins. It is cool on my head – red goes in and the signs of aging are being erased for another month.

I try to calm my mind during such moments, but still randomness pops up. My stories that I’ve started and never finished, eBay listings that are pending today, shelving paper that is needed under the kitchen sink, and what’s going to be for dinner. I think we are both lost in our thoughts as he applies color, and I receive it.

My rambling thoughts as I patiently sit for my color:

The weather visqueen vapor barrier we applied to the patio over the screens has the desired effect – the patio is between ten and twenty degrees warmer, which tells me that we may be able to use it more often this winter than last. Also, an added bonus, I may be able to start my spring planting earlier this year since the patio may also serve as a greenhouse. I think I’m going to plant some herbs and bring in some strawberry plants as a test for the space.

Our next home improvement task will be to create a built-in dresser in our walk-in closet, so that it frees up our bedroom space, which will then be used as an exercise area. We sold our previous bike and have a new one coming within the next few weeks, one that has an elliptical function as well as two ways to use the bike.

Our seventh anniversary was December 7th and I am reflecting on our wedding day. It snowed the day we got married in Reno; we didn’t think people would make it to our wedding, but everyone showed up. Hubbin and I spoke our vows and traditions were followed, and when it was done, everyone signed a copy of our license. It was especially memorable because we honeymooned at a Star Trek Convention in San Francisco and the attendees, the stars of the series, also signed the copy of our wedding license! Hubbin is a true Trekkie, so this was the honeymoon of a lifetime for him.

I think I’m rambling now, and Hubbin is only half done, so I think I’ll write a short story about a dying phone.
