Stuck in a Loop – An Insurance Billing Nightmare

I went to the lab for annual blood work last year and the billing/insurance payment is still not resolved. The doctor’s office coded the bill incorrectly, the billing department submitted it to the insurance, who, based upon the submitted billing codes, refused to pay it. I got involved in this mess in February because there were multiple invoices that had gotten messed up. It seems the people who handle my doctor’s office accounts create a new account number EVERY TIME a person is seen by any of the doctors where I go. Yes, each invoice is a new account number.

So now, resolution is down to three bills/accounts/invoices, the same three I began dealing with in February, for services rendered over thirteen months ago.

Needless to say, I feel as if I’m back at Square One today after having made yet another phone call to the billing office for status of resolution. I guess there have been staff changes, etc. etc. etc., but today all I’m hearing is, “Blah, blah, blah, we don’t have it fixed yet; someone’s dropped the ball again.”

I’m documenting my findings since this may be one for the insurance commission.

In the big scheme of things though, this may seem minor compared to what others go through, and in the big picture (after resolution), I’ll probably forget that I even considered this drama.

But for today, it is.
