I’ve killed my squash plant.
Well, *I* didn’t kill it, aphids did. I kind of feel responsible though – I probably should have done more than throw water at it occasionally. I really thought it was just wilting from the triple digits we’ve been experiencing, but after the last rain which came down in buckets, it still looked bad. I, who am bug-phobic, examined it a bit more closely after the rain that did nothing for its wiltedness, and discovered it had aphids. A LOT of aphids! Home remedies didn’t help and by the time we had consulted the local nursery about what to do, it was dead. No amount of water, plant food, bug repellent or any other product could bring it back from as dead as it was. My bell peppers, parsley, and tomatoes are doing okay, not exactly flourishing but okay. The strawberries are hesitant to bloom. I think the grasshoppers, of which there are LOTS of this year, may have something to do with the lack of blossoms on those little plants. I’ll keep them watered and maybe relocate them somewhere a bit sunnier next year.
So much for my not-so-green thumb. *sigh*
